Knittin'

Armed with knitting needles, looms and YouTube, I've taught myself how to knit over the last couple of weeks. My goal was to be able to knit wash cloths and scarves. Pretty simple goals. I've done both of those things and have tried to progress along.

I've pretty much gotten the knit and the purl down enough that it doesn't look like a hot mess. I'm not dropping stitches as much as in the beginning.

Since I want to find some projects to do with my lunch group of knitters at school, I ordered a couple of circle knitting looms. The large one is for hat making and the two small ones are for mittens.

I've made a couple of scarves on some mega fat needles and matching caps on the circle loom.

It's been a lot of fun to make these. The hats only take around 2 hours to create from start to finish.

Now to just figure out how to make them fit.

Way to go, Jan! Fantastic that you taught yourself. I am relaly intrigued by the circle looms - I've never seen them before but the hat you made is fabulous. I learned to make hats and gloves using 4 needles, which is a pain in the proverbial. Happy New Year and happy knitting! Sara x ps. might be a bit slow blogging for the next little while during our move...

Oh my gosh, you have been so busy with this knitting. I am glad to see how productive you've been. I have a hat on a loom for ages. Just the other day I got it out for a friend to work on. I hope one of us can get it finished soon.
I'll be heading back to school on Monday. How about you?

Hey - I know those looms! They're from In The Attic! You can get other sets at Wally World or any of the Big Box Craftstores. They are easy to learn on -- and not as limiting as you might think. Google "KniftyKnitter" or 'Loom Knitting" and there are fabulous custom loom makers, patterns, help and stitch patterns. Lots of ideas, too! Oh, and kids and looms make for great Service Projects, if they need to do that for school. Enjoy those looms -- they are great!
