Scherenschnitte - Second 3D Flower Bouquet

 Scherenschnitte - Paper Flower Bouquet

This is the paper cutting from the drawing I showed the other day. I think I need a little more height in the middle, but it is okay.

What I need to work on even more is taking photos of white paper! I just can't seem to get the balance or contrast how I want it.

Scherenschnitte Design for a Second 3D Flower Bouquet

 Scherenschnitte - 3D - Flower Bouquet #2

I liked the idea of the 3D bouquet, so I continued working with that theme. Here's the line drawing I am going to work with today.

3D Bunch of Flowers - Scherenschnitte

Flower Bunch

I've decided to experiment with cutting some of my designs on the Cricut.  If the design is totally mine, does it matter if I use X-acto blades or scissors or blades on the Cricut? How about if I do some of it on the Cricut and some of it by hand? That's what I did with this one; some of it is hand cut and some of it is machine cut.

Next step: stitching.

First Grade Bouquet

Our first grades have a Mother's Day Tea soon, that is put on by the music teachers. Here's the contribution from the art room. Each first grader will be making a 3D bouquet to present to their moms. The kids are so excited!

Whimsy

I'm spending the weekend drawing on notecards. I love whimsy and so these are just fun to do.

I'll put them up on Etsy, and if they remain there past Christmas, I'll be happy to send them out myself. So often I have trouble finding commercial cards that "speak" to me.

By the way, if you have an Etsy shop, would you leave a comment for me? I want to do a post sometime soon where I give the links to my favorite artist/friends.

Fiddlin' Around

I've been back from Fall Break for four work days now.  Funny how two weeks off from work totally renders you a weakling when you return.  I'm rather pooped.

I've had little inspiration for snipping lately, so I just fiddled around a bit with this.  It's a flowery hat on the head of a boy.  Maybe the plants are like ideas sprouting from his brain.

Personally, I could use some idea sprouting as well.

Thistle

I'm loving the form of thistle to use in 3D paper cuts. This morning I snipped a bunch to use as gift tags.

It occurred to me that they might make for an interesting garden, so they were hanging in the windows of "Snippyville" for a while today.

Scherenschnitte in an Altered Book

I've been playing with different papers lately, trying to get away from a bit more traditional scherenschnitte. The paper I chose for this piece was a calendar page showing a quilt. I've also been cutting freehand lately, just to try and improve my visual thinking skills.
I've never done an altered book before. In this one I'm experimenting with a lot of different types of paper cut designs.
