The Things I Do in the Middle of the Night

If only Mark knew what was going on down in Snippyville when I am up in the middle of the night.  My goodness.

Sometimes I dress up and photograph myself to model for my snips.  Here I am as "the old lady who swallowed a fly." As I drew, the story took a macabre turn.  Looks like the old lady didn't just happen to swallow these critters. Note the pot and ladle. Uh huh.  She was plotting against them!!!

One Drawing A Day

One reason I started blogging was to inspire myself to do more art.  Lately, I have been doing lots of art, but not taking the time to blog it.

Cassie Stephens, of the Cassie Stephens blog, started a group on Facebook called "Artsy Book Club." The current intent is to have folks work along with the book, One Drawing a Day, by Veronica Lawlor.  It has been a lot of fun to have an art challenge.  It feels awfully vulnerable posting the results for the world to see.

Here are the drawings I have done so far.
Pen and ink drawing of a still life

Pen and ink drawing of something organic

Pen and ink portrait

Charcoal drawing from a photo

Ink drawing with washes
I'm looking forward to five more weeks of drawing.  Hopefully I will remember to share them!

Draw the Shape of a Head....???

This week I am teaching my second graders how to overlap people in a drawing.   I asked them first to draw the shape of a head.  After that they cut out the shape and used it as a template to repeat and overlap the shape.

Most of the shapes are clearly head shapes.  Not all of them are.

I didn't want to stop the one girl from continuing on the head shape she had in mind.  My curiosity was piqued to see what she was going to do.

So, here are the results.  One person's work is shown overlapping the expected heads and then the other has the  unique heads.

Ta da!!!!!!!  I love seeing how people's brains work.

Ernest's Space Ship

Ernest did this with my sub yesterday.  The assignment was to draw a tree house.  I guess the tree house was just a jumping off place for him.  I do like this kid's style.

Cartoons by Ernest

One of my fourth grade students creates the coolest little characters. Every time he gets "free choice" in art, he creates these cartoons. When he was in second grade, I mounted about seven different scenes, and put them in the pyramid (community) art show. I want him to paint a bulletin board of them for the hall. They're just so fun.
