"The rivah." That's what mid-Atlantic easterners call any local body of water that is not the ocean. (If you can't deciper Tidewater-ese, that's "the river.)

| My Mom's family has lived in the small county of Mathews, Virginia for generations. Located on the Mobjack Bay, memories and stories from there often revolve around water. |

| My aunt lives there still. This weekend I went down there and spent a night with her. |

| We always seem to have lots of laughs together, and I usually come home with a family story or two. |

| The courthouse town there is quaint and has somehow managed to not destroy the things that make it so. |

| This will probably be my last visit to Mathews until the Spring. |

I love your photos... makes me want to hop on a plane and experience east coast USA on the cusp between fall and winter! We're heading into summer and as I'm in the sub-tropics spring and autumn are merely a couple of weeks of too-ing and fro-ing as winter and summer fight it out. Mathews County looks beautiful; I hope this trip sustains you until next year. Sara x

Good eats? Oh heavens yes. Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab fixed "every whicha way"...all sorts of seafood....fixed "every whicha way" as well. Mmmmmmm....
Mathews is a pretty place to live and to visit. Glad you got to visit with your aunt.
What a great place to have family and you can go back and visit for a spell here and there! Looks like a lovely, sleepy, quiet, dreamy place!!!
i love these pictures. reminds me so much of my summers and trips to smith island. the crab pots and buoys, the crab cakes - yum yum. In fact my relatives sent some crab meat to my parents and we get to partake over Thanksgiving. God love those crustaceans!!
