Need Advice

I think of myself as an UN-fashionista.  My fashion sense is seriously lacking.  That's why I'm asking you guys for advice.  This is probably an etiquette question as well.

I will be attending a late afternoon wedding and can't find any dresses that look good on me.  There is a nice little black dress in my closet and several pashminas.  Is it okay to wear a black dress to a wedding?  Is it okay to wear a sleeveless dress with a pashmina to a wedding?

My friend, whose son is getting married, is particular about some parts of ettiquette and clothing.  She told me a couple of weeks ago that she might have to go after someone who wore white shoes after Labor Day.  I don't want her coming after me.

Personally I think she needs to get a life, if only my worries were such small ones!

That said, yes nowadays black is perfectly acceptable at weddings as is sleeveless. But I would make the Pashmina a color, preferably bright and coordinate it with some bright matching jewelry. Down here we have a store called Dustee's, which is great for cheap and cheerful matching jewelry, or Kohls is good too.

I am wearing black to a weddings in two weeks. I can't imagine someone having an issue about a guests attire unless it was something way over the top.

Brit Gal sounds like she knows fashion and has great thoughts! I like Kohls jewelry too.

I wear black to weddings a lot - just because those are the dresses that I feel the best in. With a great color pashmina, it would be lovely! Have fun at the wedding!

You know, I think black is just an IN color for quite some time now and it can be worn to any function! I have known some brides who chose to wear black! Seriously. I think wearing a colorful pashmina with it would be really pretty!

I am thinking, maybe wrap it or secure it with a pretty pin and then you wouldn't have to worry about having to hold it with your hands and would feel more comfortable moving around. Have fun!!!!!!!

I think what you are describing sounds very pretty and appropriate for a wedding. I love colorful accessories with black!

I agree with the rest of your commenters the black dress sounds great with a pashminca. And I think your friend's clothing etiquette issues are her problem not yours. It's nice of you to not want to offend - however, nowadays I think clothing rules are far more flexible than in the past.
