Countdown

The countdown is definitely on.  M laughs at me as I give him the updates.  "Only three more weekends left til school is out."  "18 more days."  "Four more weeks."  It's all a part of organizing my brain.  I get my first long summer in years now that the "year round school" concept has died in my county.  I want to plan what I'm going to be doing with all that summer break.

So far we are contemplating a trip to San Francisco; bringing the granddaughter to Virginia for a couple of weeks; backpacking someplace new; lots of cycling; and some paddling.  I'm  looking forward to piddling around in my wild flower garden, which is more wild than garden.  And then I am looking forward to spending lots of time down in Snippyville.

I know and understand the countdown routine, having taught for 33 years!

Another school system gives up on the year-round plan? As a student, I loved it -- but I would have gone all year long if they would have let me! We sure enjoyed having vacation in the Spring before everyone else got our. Woe for our children, woe for our schools.

I hope this summer fills you.

You sound just like us and the kids with your countdown. How interesting - why did your county opt out of year round school? I thought it was the "new" way of things and that soon all the school districts would be adopting that calendar.

Lots of fun ideas for your long summer break. We have never had year-round-school and I wonder what it would be like. Are you disappointed about the change?
