Squirrel Nutkin and Deja Vu
I was reminded today of those movies where someone dreams an event and then it happens. This time, however, it centered around a kindergarten lesson I taught.
This week we read Beatrix Potter's "Squirrel Nutkin."
Do you know the story about Squirrel Nutkin? It's the story about a squirrel who instead of gathering nuts with the other squirrels, spent his time pestering a wise old owl. Eventually he pestered the owl so much, the owl pulled off Squirrel Nutkin's tail.
So here's the deja vu part. M and I were out in the yard today picking up sticks. I got to a spot where the ground was oddly dug up. I wondered what on earth had happened there.
Then I saw this.
Poor Squirrel Nutkin. I guess our resident barred owl had him for dinner.

Yuck! Better you finding it than me :) The squirrel paintings are so well done and much nicer to look at!
Quite a coincidence finding it when you did.
That was one of my favorite story books when I was a kid. That and "Fierce Bad Rabbit"
Don't believe I have read that book. Going to have to check that one out. Hate it for Mr. Squirrel. Ewww.
The pictures are too cute! Great job from your little artists.
Hugs,
Tara
Nature red in tooth and claw - and beak, too, by the look of it! Great pictures by your students, Jan - I loved the Beatrix Potter tales when I was a kid. Sara x
I would not like to find what you did in my yard, that's for sure. Your little students are working carefully on their squirrel paintings!
Oh my gosh, I don't know if I should laugh or hurl!! Lololol!
Did you save the tail? I'm sure there's something crafty that can come from it... ewwwwww
LOL. I was not expecting that ending to the story!
Those children's drawings are beautiful.
I am indeed... it's the best part of the world, if I do say so myself! Do you sell any of your cut paper art? I'd LOVE to buy a fairy or..? email me! mreddick@sd70.bc.ca
Thanks!!
