My sister and I are heading to New York for a very short visit. We've both been a couple of times, so have done the most basic touristy things. If you had to pick your favorite things to do in New York City, what would they be?
Thanks...........jan

Sorry...no help. Never been. Have fun and be safe.
I love the theater... Les Miserables is my all time favorite or Phantom of the Opera... so very wonderful! I have heard if you go to the theater about 2:00 in the afternoon, you can get tickets at a reduced price.
That is my favorite thing to do.
Jan - you need to email Daryl first thing tomorrow. She is a life long NY'er, a truly wonderful person and one of my best blogworld friends. She works in Times Square and I just know she'll give you the best possible advice.
Her blog is linked on my list 'Out & About in NYC http://onthem104.blogspot.com/ and her email is fashionistanyc@gmail.com Tell her I sent you to her!
Have no idea I have never been to NY but would you like to do a trade?? A I love NY t-shirt for anything you would like me to sew for you?? Think it would make an awesome father's day gift for my hubby as my daughter's real initials are NY. ;)
Sorry I can't help you but I hope you have a fab time!
X Alex
Is it too late to get tickets to any of the daytime tv shows that shoot in NYC? Regis? The View? How about standing in Good Morning America's window one morning? If you "snippy" a great sign they'll put you in front!
LionBrand Yarn has a new gallery/store -- that's where I'd be!
One of my online friends was in NYC a few months ago and she chronicled her shopping experience on her blog. Go here: http://artsymama.blogspot.com/
and on the right side, just below her etsy shop you will find a list of her NYC postings!
Have so much fun!!!
Jan ... I am happy to help .. when do you arrive, where are you staying .. email me ... fashionistanyc at gmail
Hi Jan, I haven't been back to NYC since well before 9/11 so everything's changed, but I used to love taking the ferry across to Staten Island, and I also loved walking round the shops - Kate's Paperie (http://www.katespaperie.com/)was a favourite. Also, have you been to up to The Cloisters? It's an off-shoot museum of the Met and you have to take a bus-ride out through Harlem and up to Fort Tryon Park - it's a genuine Italian monastery brought over stone by stone by a rich NY industrialist and it's full of beautiful 14th/15th century art: see the website at http://www.metmuseum.org/cloisters/ I loved it! And of course, catching the art exhibitions is my treat when I'm there... Hope this gives you some ideas, Sara x
OOH, go see a show!!! That is always something we try to do, well me and my mom, at least. I normally go to visit family, but... i went a couple of times to the 911 site, that was MOVING to say the least. Hey, I cannot say much. I have been to NYC numerous times and still have not been to the Statue of Liberty or even stepped one hair on Ellis Island. I have had more interaction with the normal life, away from tourism, that occurs in the lives of relatives. that is a whole experience and culture shock in itself sometimes. :-)
I agree with the "go see a show" comments, there is a line you can stand in for 25 dollar tickets for the first two rows. Every time I am in NYC I stand in this line, armed with coffee and a book because seeing a show from the second row for $25 is awesome!!
Also, go to Chelsea and walk the galleries. It's always interesting.
