Hattie's Garden

When I was a little girl, I loved going to visit my Grandma Hattie. She lived on a farm by the water and had chickens, cows and a little garden. That garden in the summer was mmmmmmmmyummy. Pluck a tomato off the vine and eat it right then and there. Her carrots were oh so sweet, if also sometimes, deformed looking. All you needed was a squirt from the nearby water hose, and you were in business. Delicious!

I was experimenting with my new retractable exacto knife here. The cutting didn't feel as satisfying as with my snippy scissors, but I felt that I could get more detail.

Ooooh, just visited your blog! Loved what you have cooking! I sense that Hattie's garden could easily develop into a children's book. Love your use of material, the books and patterned paper in your paper cuts. Very inspiring! Do you use any paper that's around or is there a paticular type you like? I like using origami paper, but haven't had luck finding it in large sheets. -Ingrid

Thanks for the compliment! I usually use what materials are around. At the moment there is a lot of elementary school construction paper around. ("Fadeless" supposedly.) I keep thinking that I need to get a better grade of paper though. We have fadeless bulletin board paper at school that is about the weight of origami paper. I need to give that a try.

I came over here after reading your comment at Alicia's and am glad I did. Your papercuts are amazing! I've never tried, but I do love fiddly work with scissors, so I might just give it a try.

Thanks, Lisa. I'm "fiddly" with lots of crafty things too.
